Late Celtic square hillfort

On the basis of archaeological investigations

In a small project for the town of Oberhaching, in collaboration with Dr. Walter Irlinger and Dr. Melanie Marx, we were able to take up a topic that we had dealt with intensively in archaeological terms, particularly in the 1990s.

At that time, ArcTron completely investigated two square enclosures (Plattling-Pankofen, district of Deggendorf and Pocking-Hartkirche, district of Passau).

The Celtic square enclosures are a typical settlement form of the Late Latène period, i.e. the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.
They are mainly found in southern Germany, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Six sites are known in the municipality of Oberhaching alone, with two more in neighboring Holzhausen.

On the Oberhaching landing page, the multiple ski jumps “Im Lanzenhaarer Feld” and “Im Loh” as well as the rhombic ski jump “Im Laufzorner Holz” are presented in more detail.

Scientific and accurate to the post

We are also showing the outstanding excavation findings from Pocking-Hartkirchen as an example of a scientifically reconstructed quadrangular redoubt with internal buildings. In 2006, we were able to translate the results of the excavation into a 3D reconstruction, taking into account the exact location of the posts, exclusively for the “Drehscheibe Pocking” exhibition.
