Track Renewal Train

This project which involved the 3D scan of a train for the MATISA Machine GmbH (from Donaueschingen) was about so called “light pipe surveys” of a track-renewal train (P95). This kind of survey helps to safely prevent a train from colliding with objects (e.g. signs) close to the tracks in a certain area (light pipes).

The app. 114 m-long train was completely scanned (Riegl laser scanner VZ-400) for this purpose. During the data evaluation, sections were layed through defined areas, and the respective measurements were then taken in CAD. These values were analyzed with a target performance comparison concerning the deviations.
