Overview of modules

Basic Module

The Basic Module is the heart of aSPECT 3D, which can be combined with any number of the other modules.

The Basic Module provides you with a large number of tools and functions for visualizing and editing 3D contents.

You can create scaled, high resolution screenshots, manage layers, measure lengths, create single and multiple sections through mesh models, generate lines, texts and symbols, as well as scale and transform objects. You have several depiction modes and zoom functions at your disposal.

Basic Module

ImageScan

The ImageScan module allows you to automatically generate 3D point clouds from a large number of overlapping digital images.

It also provides you with a number of editing and filtering tools for your point cloud. You can automatically triangulate the point cloud. The resulting mesh can also be edited with various tools of the module.

PhotoTexture

The PhotoTexture module allows you to create photrealistic textures for meshes created with ImageScan.

Presentation

Create high-resolution HD-videos of your models and render them directly from aSPECT 3D using the Presentation module.

Survey

Using the Survey module, you can connect your total station (Leica Geosystems) to aSPECT 3D and visualize any measured line directly online. Additionally, the module includes our established CodeDraw tool.

CodeDraw allows you to automatically draw coded survey data (total station or GPS). Aside from our predefined code sets, you can create your individual codes for automatic drawings.

Database

The Database module provides you with an inherent PostgreSQL database. Create your individual database simply and intuitively.

This module also includes our image database, especially designed for use in ImageScan processes.

Basic software applications

Creating 3D point clouds from image sequences (ImageScan module)

In aSPECT 3D, you can easily and quickly compute point clouds from a large number of digital photographs. All you need is a standard SLR-camera! You just have to take pictures of your object and aSPECT 3D handles the rest.

(essential hardware requirements: Inte chip, nvidia graphic board (Fermi cores))

You will find technical recommendations for the process here...

Triangulate and texture your 3D objects (ImageScan module)

In aSPECT 3D, you can easily triangulate and texture point clouds. Two algorithms provide you with both 2.5D and 3D triangulation (Delaunay and Poisson). The first step of texturing is a vertex texturing. After that, photorealistic texturing follows.

Transformation (Survey module)

At first, point clouds created in aSPECT 3D, are unscaled and in a local coordinate system. You have to transform your data in order to scale it and move it into a superordinate coordinate system. aSPECT 3D deploys the Helmert Transformation. Record some visible points (coordinates) on your object (e.g. via total station or GPS), and upload them into aSPECT 3D vie CodeDraw. Finally, allocate the recorded coordinates (target coordiantes) to the respective points (reflectors or prominent points) of the point cloud.

Scaling (Basic Module)

A simple scaling of the model via a factor or a transformation vector can also be carried out in the Basic Module.

CodeDraw (Survey module)

CodeDraw allows you to initiate an automatic drawing of your 3D survey data from total stations and GPS. The software provides you with three code sets, which can be configured or extended individually. Of course, you can create and save new code sets at any time.

The single data parts are placed on different layers and can be switched on and off individually. Aside from points, texts and lines, 3D symbols can be automatically drawn as well. They are stored in a symbol library of aSPECT 3D.

The 3D plans, created with CodeDraw, can be stored and edited in the inherent PostgreSQL-database. You can combine them with other survey data or export them as DXF-files (in order to work with them in a CAD system).

3D Symbols (Basic Module)

Choose 3D symbols from a capacious library. For the first time, it is possible to map with 3D symbols. You can manage symbols in the database and filter or map according to your needs later on.

Database connection (Database module)

aSPECT 3D allows you to structure and describe your 3D geometry objects quickly, intuitively and precisely. On the one hand, you can allocate them into a hierarchical object system (part of relation system). On the other hand, the objects are placed within a classification scheme. Both of these regulatory authorities are depicted as a tree structure and can be individually built and modified at any time. Objects are being allocated via drag & drop. The hierarchical object relation has to be unique, whereas multiple allocations are possible in the classification scheme.

A third possibility for describing objects are metadata, which are strictly bound to the classification scheme named above. Metadata can be texts, images, films, PDF-files etc.

Both systems can be intertwined for evaluation. Objects can be filtered and spacially mapped according to both their hierarchical allocation and their classification attributes.

Walk-in rooms and cavaties (Basic Module)

In the latest version of aSPECT 3D, you can walk through rooms and cavaties and interactively explore them. All of this is done with one simple mouse-click. Impressively present your data using this function.

Drawing lines, points and texts onto 3D surfaces (Basic Module)

Using aSPECT 3D, you can draw directly onto your 3D model's surface and edit these lines, points and texts.

Placing and generating cross sections (Basic Module)

Cut your 3D model into freely placeable planes. The intersection lines created that way, are attributed and placed on selectable layers. The created lines could, for example, be exported in an DXF-format afterwards, to be further edited in a CAD application. This way, you can easily create floor plans and cross sections of buildings and objects.

Cut, dissect and structure 3D models (Basic Module)

3D volume models as well as complex geometries are easy to operate in aSPECT 3D. Both model and texture are cut at the same time.

High-power screenshot tool

Create scales screenshots in very high resolution for printing or further editing.

Measure and layout frame

In aSPECT 3D, 3D objects can be framed with scales from any perspective. The measuring of 3D surfaces is done by simple clicking. Surface information can easily be called up.

Working with data amounts larger than average

You can reduce the depiction of active drawing elements by employing specific filters. You can edit small parts of the object separately and afterwards reunite all parts to a complete 3D model. Several workspaces are at your disposal.

In addition, you can manage the depiction of object data using the layers.

Stereoscopic depiction (Presentation module)

You can stereoscopically depict and present your models in aSPECT 3D (precondition is a suitable hardware). All tools remain active in stereoscopic displays, so that you can even edit your models in this mode.

Automated 3D surveys for complex survey projects (Survey module)

You can "draw" with your total station in aSPECT 3D - e.g. excavation borders, object contours, levelling values. The survey process is instantly controllable and measuring errors can quickly be recognized. This way, total station recordings can be combined with 3D scan models.
